We took a trip to Gillet Castle in East Haddam CT. We are trying to visit more sites, now that the weather is nice. Hopefully we can take advantage of the history and beauty of CT.
The slides are of the grounds near the castle. We visited a pond full of lily pads and croaky frogs. It was absolutely beautiful! It was neat to listen to both birds and frogs sing their merry tunes.
History: Gillet paid a million dollars to construct the castle on his hundreds of acres of land. He was an actor and stared in multiple Sherlock Homes plays (he was the one who inspired the curved pipe and the ear-covered hat that is most commonly associated with the Homes series today) Gillet was very theatrical and loved to entertain his guests. Gillet even constructed a miniature train with steel tracks that went throughout his land for providing transportation and rides for his guests. He was an interesting man with many ideas for conserving space, energy, and resources.
Focus on the birds singing. What kind of birds are they? (I know the annoying crow, but not the others) Also, try to listen for the frogs. They make interesting noises.
