Sunday Shenanigans April 2-9 2017

We've got some great milestones to cover this week!  First, Sophia just started riding her bike.  Danny bought her training wheels and now she is loving it!  The kids are good to encourage her and help her get the hang of it.  So helpful.  Sophia is also taking her role of pretend play very serious.  She loves working in her kitchen and taking care of her babies (changing their diapers and feeding them). She always wants someone to sit at her table so she can feed you, or have you look after her babies while she works. Love 3 year olds!

Molly and Jakob had crazy hair day at school this week.  We had to get out the color crayons again for rainbow hair.  Always!  They get to come to Kindercare with me this week (for spring break) and we will be having hat day, crazy hair day, sports day, movie day, pajama day and costume day! They're not too excited about it, but deep down I know they'll have fun!

Jakob made doggy/kitty pancakes from scratch (with a bit of help from sophia).  Rogers Restaurant is in full force around here!

The kids love dancing, avatar, doggie piles, food, and being silly.

Molly had her Salute to America performance this week.  She was so SO sweet to help her friend with autism find her way, remind her where to go/ when to sing, where to stand, when to exit, etc.  The play was all student led (the teachers sat on the side and helped when needed), so it was a big deal for her to remember her own role as well as another person.  It brought tears to my eyes (as her teacher, too, when she mentioned how sweet and special Molly is with Kareen) to know that Molly is so kind and considerate of others and genuinely wants to help those around her.  She is a great girl and a phenomenal performer!  She just loves the stage (much like her mama).  P.S. I missed Molly's speaking part in the show....it was difficult to see past everyone's heads and I didn't notice her come down to speak her part.  Luckily I had her share her line before the show so I at least have it on record.  ha ha

Sunday Shenanigans March 20-26th

Since the kids were old enough to hold a spoon they have always wanted to help me in the kitchen.  It's great!!  It's nice that this experience encourages the kids to read recipes, make measurements and create balanced meals (all good things to learn later on).  I started making pizza last Sunday and then suddenly the kids took over.  It was nice to sit back, give occasional tips/tricks/instructions, and let the kids do most of the work.  Each child has a day of the week devoted to making dinner.  A lot of the time it is plain ol' pasta, easy peasy.  Sometimes they are adventurous, like Molly making enchiladas!!!  She was so successful!  Sophia just loves to help stir or throw in the ingredients as I go.
The kids also had some luck in their cereal this week!  Double shredded wheat, humongus bran flake the size of Sophia's eyeball, and doubled rice squares.  Oh yeah!

The kids have started piano again.  I think I am willing to fight the fight (second round).  I know how important it is to keep it going and not give up, since Danny and I both did when we were young, so we are back in the game!  They're both getting the hang of it and I love watching them try to play with each other or listen to one play while the other one sings.  It's all good practice for being a musician!  Jakob just got a recorder from school and has to start practicing that as well!

Sunday Shenanigans March 13-March 20th

We spent a lot of time indoors this week!  Nor'easter Stella graced us with her presence at 4am Tuesday Morning and wouldn't leave until later that night.  She started off as snow then by noon turned into sleet and ice and by 2pm she was rain and back to snow by dinner.  Crazy!  The kids stayed in most of the time and tried to keep busy.  Molly and Sophia got into tatoos and body glitter and dressups, Jakob sorted his pokemon cards and watched netflix movies.  Its not really fun being stuck indoors, but glad to have a day off of school and work.

The kids are always trying to find "good luck" in the cereal, for example, two mini wheats stuck together or a huge rasin bran flake!  Jakob found a mini-wheat COVERED in frosting!  He thougth it was the coolest thing--and of course that meant that the girls had to find one, too.  We've got some pretty lucky kids!!  ha ha

On Monday, before the storm, I took Molly and Flat Stanley out to visit South Glastonbury.  We took Stanley to the Connecticut River and local farms then showed him our huge maple trees that produce syrup (if only we remembered to tap them this year) and then he sat out the storm with us, watching snow fall down from the window.  I think the next time he visits he needs to bring winter clothes!

We had another snow day on Wednesday because the roads were icy and undrivable in the morning.  I was going to take the kids to Kindercare with me, but Molly woke up sick so we ended up staying home instead.  It was really cold at home so I started a fire to help the heater work efficiently.  (I started a fire on Tuesday, too, and the kids spent most of the morning right next to it--they even had a picnic lunch right by the warmth) Sophia even decided that she needed to take her nap by the fire and stayed toasty warm! Man, sure love our stove!

St. Patrick's day is hugely celebrated out here for some reason so I decided to put green streaks in the kids hair for their contribution.   They thought it was so cool!  Sophia went to school and noticed that a naughty Leprechaun had visited her room because he left green foot prints all over, peed green in the toilet, and hung up her snuggles on the ceiling.  She wasn't too happy about that, but everything else was really silly to her. We ate corned beef and mashed potatoes for dinner (lucky charms for the kids) and topped it off  with lucky charm krispy treats.  WIN!!

The kids decided to build blanket forts this week!  I was happy to see it make a come back.  Sophia started the idea and then big brother ran with it to make an epic fort with every. single. chair. that we own!  ha ha.  It's all fun and games until you realize there is nowhere to sit!
