Jakob has become more observant these last couple of days. I'm pretty sure it's because of all the new gadgets laying around.
Today I got to see first hand just how observant is really is: (this may be TMI...read at your own risk)
I have only had to use the pump a couple of times to give me some relief, but Jakob is not one to forget how something works after seeing it only a few times. Today he found the pump machine on the table and started exploring the mechanics of this interesting device.
First he tried putting the plug into the wall because he knew that was how it turned on. (I helped him with that) Then he proceeded to try to turn it on. The button is a bit sticky, so even though he was pushing it down he needed my help to actually get it on. Next he found the tubes that connect to the machine, even though he couldn't figure out where they went, and asked me to help him connect the tubes to the bottles. I was about to stop him because I wasn't sure what he was going to do from there-maybe something embarrasing, but I decided to wait and see what he remembered from his short encounter with the pump.
After getting the pump officially set up, Jakob looked at me a little confused then gestured to me that he needed milk. He used his signing to tell me that he wanted milk and when I came back with the carton of 2% milk he pointed to the bottles. I poured some milk into the pump and Jakob was thrilled! He figured it out on his own and got some milk in return. (what an observant little dude!)
Jakob is also obsessing over drinking water from different containers. He first started this fettish with measuring cups: he brings me the measuring cup, I fill it with a little bit of water, he drinks the water, and the cycle starts over.
His fettish with the measuring cup has moved on to other objects: syringe containers, small cups, the cap on the pump, bottle nipple, and measuring spoons. He loves figuring out what objects he can drink water from-sometimes spilling the water out of the said object before actually being able to drink it.
