Flash Back Friday

Glenwood apartment, Provo, Utah,  right before going Salsa dancing at the Richards Building on BYU campus.

One of Many Dates

Danny was pretty uncomfortable.  He admitted that although he tried out for the ballroom team in high school, he really didn't know how to dance.  I didn't want to accept that answer.  I figured since he had played an instrument in high school he should at least be able to stay on beat.  Well, little did I know, he was being honest.

We took it slow.  I showed him a few basic steps and then danced it with him.  We worked each step until he had a few patterns memorized.  I don't know if he was truly enjoying himself, but at least he was willing to try.    Through most of the night Danny was eager to impress and very self conscious at the same time.  I, on the other hand, was becoming impatient and less willing to sympathize.  I think he feared he was losing a part of his manhood at that moment. He really wanted to do this for me, but in the back of his mind he was thinking there's no way I'm doing this again.

Danny has taken me dancing a few times since.  Although he still forgets the steps, and I still loose patience with him, we dance and have a genuinely good time.  I very much appreciate the fact he is still willing to try.
