We have a three-year-old running around our house now!
Dear Jakob,
I am so proud of you. You were nervous to visit the doctor for your well care visit, but thankfully you let down your guard and agreed to get checked. It doesn't normally happen that easy; most days you put up a fight.
You are right where you need to be in your development. Compared to other kids your age, you are a little under 50th percent for height and 15th percent for weight. Unfortunately you get that from your dad. :)
There is so much going on in your life right now-its no wonder you express a roller coaster of emotions. Luckily some things are getting easier in your small world: expressing vocabulary and using complete sentences to communicate; trying new foods; putting up with your sister; sharing with friends; making good choices; being obedient; and trying to balance your temper, to name a select few.
I appreciate that you try to do good things. You generally are a good boy, but often times you need to have a time out. I don't think you always enjoy getting in trouble. I've noticed that you get embarrassed about being in trouble and will act out more aggressively because of it. It's an interesting reaction; I haven't quite figured out how to help you with it.
You have been saying some funny things lately. Just yesterday you ate some jello and turned to me and said, "Yumm! It tastes like..........DINNER!" Hilarious! I am also entertained by the fact that you could play trains/cars all. day. long! Seriously! You could also watch movies all day long too, but thankfully you enjoy pretend play more.
I am happy that you love your sister. My favorite thing is that you try to find ways to make her laugh. I know she loves it when you make her laugh. You have been more protective of her as well. If she runs off you are good to take her by the arm and bring her back (even though she doesn't like being pulled). I hope you two remain best friends.
Recently you have been making up your own songs. I don't always know what you're saying, but it's cute to hear you singing random tunes. I've also enjoyed hearing "Sunbeam, a Sunbeam!" I know you don't always sing with other nursery kids, but at least you know the chorus of the song.
We've started a behavior chart to help direct your choices. So far it has been working. You have been more agreeable to clean up your toys just so you can move one more space on the train track. Hopefully you can start making better choices and getting rid of old habits so you can have a more balanced life. I know you can do it!
I am loving your independence and what you're able to do. It makes life just a little bit easier, doesn't it? I am having a lot of fun learning and growing right along with you. You are a caring young boy and I am so proud of you! I love you so much! (I'm pretty sure Dad and Molly love you too)
