Happy Easter!

Easter came at the end of March this year.  Unfortunately the sub-par weather and brown tipped grass didn't make it feel like Easter.  Apparently it's still winter in New England: cold, windy, and brown.

This year we ventured to the Mall to pay the Easter Bunny a visit.  Naturally, the kids feared the floppy eared rabbit.  They stared.  Thank goodness for the carousel and playscape to make the visit worthwhile.

We DID make sugar cookies, as per tradition, and added some egg coloring to the mix.  I experimented with "boiling" eggs in the oven vs. the water, since a few friends had suggested it, but it was a horrible decision and I will not be doing that again.  Luckily the kids cared more about the dye than how they tasted.

We attended a few egg hunts (which Jakob LOVED!) and both kids got the swing of things before the family egg hunt Sunday morning.  The kids had plenty of sugar all week!

The Easter Program at church was okay.  I had been stressing over the music all MONTH and the morning of (no big surprise there) and may have made a few mistakes conducting the choir during the numbers.  I don't know why I care so much.  The congregation doesn't notice and the choir is already aware of my MANY weaknesses...I guess I just like things to go the way they should and when they don't I am my worst critic.  I don't really like that about myself.  Oh well.

For dinner, I decided to go a more nontraditional route and make Cafe Rio inspired pulled pork salads, complimented with cilantro-lime rice, beans, cilantro-lime dressing, pico de gallo and guacamole.  It's not as good as the real stuff, but it satisfied the craving for the time being.

Before going to bed I told Danny that we forgot to call family to wish them all a Happy Easter.  We are just not good about remembering to do that sort of thing.  We constantly think about the family and reminisce past experiences, but we don't make an effort to reach out to those we love.  It probably makes people think we don't care, or don't think about them often, and I feel sad about that because it's untrue.  I wish we could spend holiday's with our extended family and not feel so alone doing things by ourselves.  I know the kids would surely enjoy it!  So I guess in a round about way I am saying HAPPY EASTER TO ALL OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY that we failed to contact yesterday.  We really do love you and think about you often.  In fact, we are counting down the days until summer when we get to come visit again.

Until then....here's a peek into our world on the east coast.
