The ABC's of Fall: I is for...

 Indescribable and Ironic

The East Coast has been through almost every natural disaster possible this year.  It all started with the four feet of snow at the beginning of the year, then we've had to battle through tornadoes, an earthquake, hurricane Irene, and now a destructive Nor'easter that caused much damage to the beautiful trees and made it so at least 800,000 people had to relearn how to survive--most without heat, hot water, and electricity; some without the ability to cook on their stove or even flush their own toilets.  It is bringing a lot of us closer together, but also making us more and more frustrated that this keeps happening.

It's ironic that while we had four days to prepare for Hurricane Irene, we didn't see nearly as much destruction as Alfred (we didn't even "prepare" for this one).  Also, it was ironic that we recieved power sooner for this catastrophic storm than for the last. Either way, we are all suffering a little inside and there isn't much we can do about it until the trees are cleared and the power is fully restored.

Halloween was canceled this year (the second time in a row for those who did not go trick-or-treating on Sunday last year) due to the lack of safety lurking on the roads.  We were, however, able to spend some time with good friends for the festive holiday.  We ate chili, stayed warm by the fire, and had a mock trick-or-treat indoors.  The adults sat behind doors while the kids went from door to door yelling "trick-or-treat" to recieve their candy.  It turned out to be a nice Halloween...especially since at 9:40 later than evening we recieved our power. 

Danny and I were nearly alseep-because what else is there to do when you don't have power and it's cold in the house-and we heard the stereo turn on and saw the kids' lamp shine across the hall.  Unfortunately we had tripple-layered the kids with pajama's and made sure to keep them in gloves and hats, so it got really toasty that night with the heat being on.  I wasn't complaining a single bit.  :)
